The Moidart Smokehouse is housed in what is believed to be the oldest roofed building in West Moidart. Originally it was called the Weaver's House (Tigh Fhigheadair) but knowledge of who the weavers were is lost.

An ancient feature of the Moidart Smokehouse is that it has no gable - any original hearth must have been vented through a hole in the roof, probably using a smoke hood.

The Moidart Smokehouse

The rugged peninsula which includes Ardnamurchan and Moidart is one of Scotland's best-kept secrets, a beautiful and haunting land of mountain and sea, of remote communities and inland lochs.

Throughout its long history Moidart has been fought over - most recently when Bonnie Prince Charlie landed on the peninsula at Forsay, near Glenuig, and, after spending time at Kinlochmoidart, left from Dalilea to sail the seventeen-mile length of Loch Shiel in Clanranald's war galley up to Glenfinnan, where he raised the Standard and those Clans which would support him.

Nowadays, the major industry is tourism, and a wide range of accommodation awaits the visitor to this wonderful area.
